Jeffrey is Ant Nekton's intelligent pet Yellowback Basslet. Jeffrey uses various water tubes to travel throughout the Aronnax. Whenever traveling outside the Aronnax, he may also goes with Ant on his "Jorange", a portable fish-tank.
Appearance[]
In the Animated Series, Jeffrey is small with green and blue eyes. The bottom appears in near blue-purplish color with yellow on the top, with small fins. Jeffrey also has a mouth with teeth in it. Unlike the rest of the Yellowback Basslet, Jeffrey has a scar on the top side of his tail.
Personality[]
Jeffrey is an intelligent fish who has more common sense than his owner Ant. He has more than once demonstrated his intelligence. He has outsmarted a number of the Nekton's enemies. He is very food motivated. He also seems to have a mutual bond with Ant, as he always follows Ant. Because Jeffrey is a fish, he often communicates using facial expressions.
Biography[]
Antaeus Nekton discovered Jeffrey while swimming around the Aronnax. As Ant was swimming, he discovers a Yellowback Basslet with a fishing pole tied around his tail. After Ant freed him, Jeffrey started following him and was allowed to live with the Nektons.[2]

Antaeus Nekton[]
Ant is Jeffrey's owner and takes care of him. He is also responsible for helping him creating a backpack called the "Jorgange", a portable aquarium allows him to carry Jeffrey, similar to a backpack.
Jeffrey has stayed by Ant's side ever since he saved him.
Fontaine Nekton[]
Fontaine has been quite dismissive of Jeffrey since day one. She does like him and sometimes talks to him about "training" Ant. She often surprised after his rescue successful attempts. She dismisses Ant's faith in him.
William Nekton[]
In the episode "At the Bottom of the Gyre" Jeffrey helps Will get the key which was out of reach. William treats Jeffrey like a dog rather than a fish and says "I think even ant will struggle to believe this".
Kaiko Nekton[]
Kaiko struggles to believe the abilities of Jeffrey.
Smiling Finn[]
Finn quite likes the fish as he was (quite comically) happy to see him in the episode "The Biggest".
Mad []
Madeline hates the fish for most of the time as a result of being outsmarted by him as she mistook him of a robotic swimming toy in the episode "Loki's Castle". It is shown in the episode "Deceptive Appearances" that Jeffrey identifies her as a threat.
She later states that Jeffrey isn't all that bad (after being saved by him) especially compared to Ant.
