Bad Luck Fish is the twenty-first episode of Season 1, and the twenty-first episode overall.
Synopsis[]
"Can a fish really be responsible for wrecking Dolos's boat, sinking the Aronnax and almost destroying the Rover? Fontaine believes so - and it's invaded Jeffrey's home on the Aronnax. How can she get rid of it and its bad luck?"
Plot[]
Will and Ant arrive at the Floating black market to talk to Dolos much to his annoyance. Will tells Dolos that 3 ships have sunk in the Sargasso Sea in the past week and points out that crew of all those ships reported seeing a purple fish before they sank, known as the "Bad Luck Fish". After paying Dolos for information, Dolos gives them a book about the fish and says that sightings of the fish date back to the first recorded sinking in the Sargasso in the 1500s but Ant corrects him by saying the first recorded sinking was in 500 BC when treasure ship carrying pressures artifacts sank in the area. Realizing he has a chance to take the treasure himself, Dolos slips away and takes his boat to the Sargasso to look for the treasure ship.
Dolos arrives at the Sargasso but the salvage ship he's meant to rendezvous with is miles away with its engine clogged with seaweed, the same thing then happens to Dolos's boat. As Dolos attempts to remove the seaweed some purple fish jump out of the water nearby, than a massive air bubble swallows up his boat leaving him stranded. The Nektons pick his distress beacon and Ant and Fontaine pick up Dolos in the Rover. Fontaine also takes one of the purple fish back with them to study. Upon returning Dolos refuses to leave the Rover because of his supposed fear of being underwater. As the Aronnax moves away it gets hit by another bubble causing it to sink fast. The impact causes Fontaine to accidently fling the purple fish she collected into Jeffery's tubes, and the fish (which has taking a liking to Jeffery) starts chasing Jeffery. During the fall Dolos takes control of the Rover in a panic and pilots it out of the moon pool with Ant still inside. The Aronnax than hits the sea floor hard!
Everyone on the Aronnax recovers but several systems have gone offline. Will and Kaiko start repairing the engines while Fontaine tries get rid of the bad luck fish. Outside Ant tries to help the others but Dolos tries to steer the Rover to the sunken treasure, they wrestle over the controls but end hitting another bubble and crash into some seaweed. Will and Kaiko get the engines back online but are still unable to surface and the seafloor is in danger of collapsing, realizing the water release pipe is blocked Will decides to go out and fix them. With the Rover stuck Ant goes outside to use a laser cutter to get it free from the seaweed. Once it's freed however Dolos takes off in the Rover to look for the treasure, leaving Ant behind!
With the moon pool blocked, Will uses the solar ski tubes to exit the Aronnax in the Mag Knight and begins fixing the pipe. As he works on the pipe a bubble hits his laser cutter and explodes violently throwing him back. Recovering, Will realizes the bubbles are methane, highly explosive. Kaiko then realizes why so many ships went missing in the Sargasso. Centuries of rotting seaweed causes methane to form under the sea floor and when the methane bubbles rise to the surface they swallow up any unsuspecting ships. Will fixes the pipe but the Aronnax still won't budge. Fontaine is finally able to catch the bad luck fish with some help from Jeffery and get it off the Aronnax. After going in circles trying to find the treasure ship, Dolos reluctantly returns to Ant and lets him drive the Rover back to the Aronnax.
Even at full power the Aronnax can't get free and Will starts to consider abandoning it. When Ant and Dolos arrive Will explains the situation and Ant comes up with a plan free the Aronnax by igniting the methane underneath it when a large bubble forms around it loosening the soil and freeing the Aronnax. Although risky, its their only choice. Fontaine and Kaiko brace themselves for the explosion, when a large bubble forms Will uses his laser to ignite the methane. The explosion blows the Aronnax out of the seafloor and after few intense seconds Kaiko is able to regain control of the ship.
With the danger behind them, Ant and Will return to the Aronnax. Dolos is annoyed that he didn't find any treasure and is not looking forward to spending more time with the Nektons.
