Alpheus Benthos is the primary antagonist of Season 2. He commands a nuclear-powered submarine of his own design, which he claims to be the fastest sub around. The sub is controlled by an AI named A.R.I.A. (Augmented Response Intelligent Application), who he is very attached to as shown in "Just Eaten".
Alpheus is the self-proclaimed "nemesis" of Antaeus Nekton, who believes their fates are intertwined. He seeks the secrets of Lemuria, so he can awaken a mysterious doomsday weapon called "The Terror", working alongside Proteus to do so.
Alpheus's suit is embedded with electronics that allow him to shoot disabling rays right from his forearms.
Appearance[]
Alpheus Benthos has short dark blue hair with a forelock over his right eye. He has light blue eyes and black eyebrows. He also has a lightly tanned skin tone. He always wears a black diving suit where the 3/4 sleeves, chest area and parts of the legs are coloured in different shades of purple. In addition, there are silver-gold-colored patterns on the purple-colored chest area. The boots are also connected to the diving suit, which are black clasp. On both of his arms he wears a shimmering blue bracelet where he can save data. He wears a tight-fitting dark brown collar around his neck. This can be used to invoke a breathing mask made of glass and metal if this is required.
Relationships[]
Proteus[]
After being banished from the Guardians, Proteus ends up working with Alpheus in their discovery for Lemuria. Proteus is last seen in the season 2 episode, "Hidden secrets".
Nekton family[]
Antaeus Nekton sees Alpheus as an "arch enemy" despite a claim by the Nekton family that they are a relative to Alpheus. Despite this, Alpheus made attempts to steal the Ephemychron from the Nektons to achieve their promise. Despite this, there has never been a single attempt from Alpheus using the Ephemychron for the use of navigation as the Nektons had used it.
A.R.I.A.[]
Nereus[]
Although the history that Alpheus and Nereus share has not yet been explored in great detail, at one point, Nereus believed that Benthos could perhaps be the chosen one. Later describing the younger man as his former protege when Will Nekton inquired over the nature of their relationship, Nereus was presumably the one that taught Alpheus about artefacts like the Ephemychron, but the two eventually underwent a falling out and went their separate ways. Before this, Nereus told his student that Alpheus would never find the gates to Lemuria, which solidified his determination to find the lost city and prove that his mentor had been wrong. This obsession suggests that a certain part of Benthos was driven by his desire to either prove himself to Nereus or prove the older man wrong. Later, after learning about Ant's encounter with Alpheus, Nereus admitted to having "encountered" him before, describing him as a young but dangerous man, but remained evasive about their ties.
Since Alpheus and his family are descendants of the rogue branch of the Lemurian royal household, he is also distantly related to Nereus, who is the brother of Queen Doreus.
